Counseling Groups at Oliverian School

Mondays- Female Substance Abuse Group
A continuation from 1st quarter. Group takes place in the Counseling Center from 7-8pm.

Tuesdays- Male Substance Abuse Group
A continuation from 1st quarter. Group takes place in the Counseling Center from 7-8pm.

Wednesdays- Female Group
A structured all female group will take place at Smith House from 6:45pm- until the girls feel we have covered a chosen topic. This new group is to help our females recognize the struggles that lie ahead of them, whether it is with relationships, or transitioning into a post-secondary education, this group will give them an opportunity to meet with all the women on campus that they come in contact with on a daily basis, and discuss issues that may be difficult to approach. (First official meeting: Wednesday, November 28th)

Thursdays- AA Meeting
A continuation from 1st quarter. Group takes place in Bradford, VT at 7:30pm

Fridays- Adoption Group
This will be the first time we offer a group that supports our adopted students. About 1/4 of our students on campus are adopted, and we feel it is very important for them to have a clear understanding what struggles they may face in life, or for them to get the chance to speak about the struggles they have already had to persevere due to being adopted. This group will be run by one of our counselors, Abby Jacobson, who was herself adopted. We will mention this group to the students on an individual basis. (First official meeting: Friday, December 7th)

Social Skills Group - Making Positive Connections
This group can help many of our students, but has started with only a select few. It focuses on making positive connections with others and help our students develop social skills. Oliverian's Director of Counseling, Lauren Estebanell, had contacted the families of the students that will start in this group; once there is a norm and culture in the group, more students will be invited to join.

Smoking Cessation Group
Kerri Harrington and Jay DesTroisMaisons will start the Smoking Cessation Group the second week back from Winter Break: Wednesday, January 9th. This course is 8 weeks long, 1-hr. every Wednesday in the Counseling Center—this is for students who have the desire to quit and will commit to the course. Please contact Kerri Harrington at: kerriharrington@hotmail.com or 603-989-3396, for pricing or any other questions related to this group.
