School culture is a critical component of life at the Oliverian School,
because we know the culture of a school speaks as much about the quality
of the educational experience as the academic program. To that end we
strive for coherence in our approaches to both school culture and academic
inquiry. We have chosen the term a caring culture to describe
the overall Oliverian experience. A caring culture encourages students
to reflect on how they relate to one another and to the natural world,
while also focusing on the community around them. To be a member of a caring culture requires a commitment to self-discovery as a fully participating community member. A caring culture invites students to exhibit a range of expressions, and then to learn how their expressions and actions affect the other members of an actively diverse community. We take time for mutual inquiry to examine and question during this process, providing challenges and opportunities to learn. Over time, common practices, rituals, and interactions create the cultural underpinnings that resonate throughout the community. |
