Dear Oliverian Parents, Even though I may already know many of you from previous years or had the opportunity to speak with many of the newcomers, I wanted to introduce myself once more. Our counseling team is very excited to work with your son or daughter this year, and we will do as much as we can to support them and their Advisors. This year, The Oliverian Counseling Services will be provided by: Abby Jacobson, John Doyle, and me. Each student is assigned one of the three counselors and has the opportunity to meet with them as often as they would like. Abby, John, and I are all trying to meet with each student this week and get a good sense of what support they will need from the Counseling Department throughout the year. Some students have made the initiative to set up their own appointments and have recognized their own needs, while we have had to seek out others. Overall, the students are aware that counseling services are provided, and that it is an added support given to them apart from their Dorm Parent, Advisor, and Teachers. Along with our individual services, there will be groups offered throughout each week. This week: Monday- Girls Substance Abuse Group, Wednesday- Boys Substance Abuse Group, Thursday- AA. In the following weeks, the students will have the opportunity to voice what groups they would like offered, along with our weekly Substance Groups. All parents should know who their child’s counselor is this year; if you are unsure, please feel free to email me. She approached me at the end of August in hopes to provide some of her services to our students. A Smoking Cessation Group will be an option 2nd quarter to our students; information will be sent as we approach next quarter. Kerri’s room will be based out of the Counseling Center, but any payments will go directly to her, not the school. Kerri’s contact information is on the attached document, so if you have further questions please direct them to Kerri or me.
