The 2007-08 "Opportunity for Learning" Campaign Begins

Construction of Phase II of the student union is well under way. The 2007-08 "Opportunity for Learning" Campaign to raise $150,000 to complete the new library and technology center is off to an amazing start. A $25,000 gift has generously been donated by one of our current families to help fund library books. This kind of generosity has propelled Oliverian to the forefront of alternative college preparatory schools.

If you would like to help or contribute to our 2007-08 "Opportunity for Learning" Campaign, please contact: Greg Vogel, Assistant Head of School, Phone 603-989-5100 ext. 7008, Email: gvogel@oliverianschool.org

New Gaming Center and Student Lounge

The gaming center is always hoppin' now that the student center is complete and equipped with two big screen TVs, video games, foosball, and pool table. The two foosball tables host many heated matches among students and faculty with the prospect of a Foosball Tournament building momentum. The wireless internet cafe offers students a place to connect with family and friends, work on school projects, research, and collaborate with their fellow students.

The student lounge area is a great spot to just relax, play video games, watch TV, and simply goof around after a fulfilling academic day..

New Indoor Health Spaces - Workout Room and Bouldering Cave

While the weather of the White Mountains continues to provide the Oliverian campus with the opportunity for snowshoe hikes, the school continues to add indoor options for students. In the past month the Oliveiran school has opened a new gym space for the community. The workout room is located next to the adventure building in the heart of the East Campus. Gym times are regular, and students are taking advantage of it. The workout room is complete with two bikes, an elliptical cross training machine, free weights, stability balls, and mats for stretching and yoga. Oliverian is hopes to add more equipment in the future.

In addition to the new workout room, a new bouldering cave is currently under construction, giving students another indoor option for recreation as the weather gets colder. The bouldering cave will give students with a passion for climbing a place to practice and develop their skills throughout the winter. The design and construction of the bouldering cave is a project currently being taken on by our Advanced Climbing Course taught by Rick Gaukel, Matthew Brown, and Erika Hoddinott. Through this project, students are creating something for the community while providing another active indoor option for students to be part of when they aren’t taking advantage of the outdoors.

Grille and Snack Bar Open

The Student Union now hosts its very own grille and snack bar managed and operated by husband/wife team Art and Danielle Bedard. The grille will be open in the evenings and weekends when the school kitchen is normally closed. Students and faculty couldn't get enough of the jalapeño poppers and chicken fingers served at the ribbon cutting ceremony. And only crumbs were left in the cookie baskets originally filled to the brim with a huge variety of tasty treats!

Winter Camping Trip - Brrr! but Fun

On Thursday, December 6, a group of 8 students and two faculty members thought they would try their hand at winter camping. The purpose of this trip was simple, get outside and have some fun. The group met at the adventure building, went through a gear assessment and made its way up Iron Mountain (on the property). Once at the site, the group made camp, hot chocolate, and shared laughs with jokes and frustration from riddles.

The new Oliverian Student Center is complete! With Oliverian's rapid growth, faculty and students expressed the need for a hot spot for students to gather, study, do research, and just "hang out." Construction began immediately, bringing the invigorating sounds of hammers pounding and saws buzzing throughout the summer. Now, less than one year from the initial vision, the Oliverian Student Center is complete with gaming center, pool table, foosball tables, big screen TVs, internet cafe, and a snack bar.

Phase II of the Student Union is the Library and Technology Center which is off to an incredible fundraising launch with a tremendous donation of $25,000 from one of our generous families at the school.
