Community Work Initiative
Through our community work initiative, students are assigned a multitude of
tasks intrinsic to the life of the school. Students are expected
to help manage the various aspects of our farming operations and the upkeep
of the school. Students will tap
maple trees, stack hay, feed and groom cattle, release apple trees, plant organic
vegetables, serve on cafeteria clean-up duty, and complete other similar tasks.
Students are also responsible for the upkeep
of the common areas of their dormitories.
Each student will be assigned to a stewardship team
composed of student stewards, mentors, and team leaders. At least one
faculty member with experience in the particular stewardship activity
area (called a module such as, cattle farming, gardening,
maple sugaring, forestry) is assigned to each team. As students progress,
expectations for their leadership and responsibility will increase. Mentors
are expected to provide support and guidance to the stewards as they learn
about the tasks to be completed in the module area. Team leaders will
provide inspiration and take a leadership role in facilitating solutions
to everyday problems
