Seven-Week Session with a Unique 3 – 1 – 3 Model
The Summer Session is a seven-week program designed to enrich the learning experience of our students. The Oliverian School Summer Session begins on Sunday, June 25, 2017 and ends on Saturday, August 12, 2017, with the first three and the final three weeks devoted to intensive credit recovery combined with stewardship, adventure, and the arts.
Our 3-1-3 model is the perfect approach to a summer program because it gives students a much-needed break from rigorous academics, while still providing an enriching educational experience. The adventure week takes place in between the two academic sessions and is a great way to refresh the students.
During the first three weeks of the summer school schedule, students will help choose and design two summer-long stewardship projects and an exciting one week mid-session adventure experience. The choice of our adventure week will be based on considerations of interest, inspiration, stewardship, and arts opportunities.
- Canoeing on the Connecticut River
- Sea Kayaking in Acadia National Park in Maine
- Rafting and Climbing in Tennessee
- Snorkeling in the Dominican Republic
Our program emphasizes choice. The Oliverian School believes each student is unique and comes to the Summer Session with different needs. Therefore, the Oliverian Summer Session emphasizes choice by allowing students to sign up for the core academic classes they want and need and also to choose from a variety of integrated experiential activities to enhance their Summer Session schedules. Not every summer program for high school students is the same, and our summer adventure program is proud to stand out by offering an exceptional freedom that gives students the liberty to be themselves.
While every student will have a full and structured day, they will have choices and great variety, such as rock climbing or horseback riding, intensive math tutoring, or an in-depth English literature and writing class.
Academic courses for the summer school session take place Monday through Thursday. Classes in the morning are geared toward academic study and support, while afternoons are devoted to more experiential learning revolving around adventure, stewardship, and the arts. After a week of classes, students are able to choose and enjoy fun recreational activities on Fridays and the weekends. In addition to the exciting classes and activities, we also offer summer counseling sessions to ensure that all aspects of the students’ lives are nurtured.
