Oliverian School is an alternative, college-preparatory boarding high school for bright adolescents who have not felt at home in traditional settings. Our supportive academic and student-life program helps students embrace their unique identity, purpose, and voice so that they can contribute to any situation and find their place in the world.

Dorm parents are the foundation of the student life department, which delivers our residential life, recreation, adventure learning, personal growth, and independent-living programming. Dorm parents are tasked with cultivating a positive, supportive, and home-like culture in the dorm. Dorm parents are part parent, part mentor, part counselor, and part teacher. Their role includes proactively helping students develop practical life, social, and community-living skills, providing critical study support during study hall, ensuring a safe and well-kept living environment, and leading on and off-campus extracurricular activities.

Dorm parents have a private apartment, including a bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom, attached to a farmhouse style dorm housing between five and twelve students in single or double-occupancy rooms.

This position is ideal for compassionate, flexible, level headed, organized, energetic, educators who relate well with young people. The dorm parent is a position with summer opportunities and reports to the dean of student life.

Responsibilities include:
This person resides in an apartment attached to the dormitory.
Typical schedule is Sunday night to Friday noon plus every 3rd weekend.
Responsible for creating a healthy, safe and welcoming environment within the dorm.
Responsible for providing programming both on campus and off campus.
Responsible for ensuring that dorm standards are maintained by helping students maintain their room/dorm and role modeling these standards in your own apartment.
Responsible for implementing the student life curriculum.
Responsible for maintaining a quarterly dorm budget.
Works in collaboration with other staff on large scale programming events on and off campus.
Teaches outdoor adventure and/or service-based classes (gardening, volunteering, animal husbandry, etc.)
Assist students with checking in and out of campus for breaks and ensures the dorm is shutdown properly.
Help students work through social and emotional difficulties, communicate issues to other staff as needed.
Responsible for timely responses to administrative duties such as checking emails, setting up team meetings, parent contact, etc.
Follow and role model any Covid-19 protocols the school has in place.
Other duties as assigned.
