Oli Update: Summer Session 2020
May 28, 2020

Dear Oliverian Parents, Students, and Friends,

As we wrap up this unique school year, receiving final assignments, calculating grades, and planning an historic virtual commencement for the class of 2020 on June 7 at 12:00 pm, we also have our eyes on Summer Session 2020!

Summer Session 2020 will be an enhanced version of the highly successful distance learning and support program we are currently providing. While we are ready to open campus with the highest
standards of safety in place, we have made the important decision to wait until fall term to do so. Sometimes it is prudent to be a late adopter instead of an early adopter, and we feel this is the case for opening our campus. Over the next several weeks, many businesses–including some daycares and schools–will open. We believe this process will yield critical datapoints to help inform a decisive and confident Oliverian campus opening this fall.

Conversations with our staff, our board, and our parents indicate strong support for this approach.

OLIVERIAN SUMMER SESSION 2020
Our summer program is ready to go and we hope that you are ready to join us! Academically, summer is most importantly a time for credit recovery and transcript enhancement. Credit
recovery can help students graduate on time or, in some cases, early by offering a “bonus” term. Transcript enhancement involves taking or retaking challenging courses with extra support for deeper learning, a better grade, and a more college-ready transcript. Additionally, year-round learning has been proven to enhance academic performance in general and prevent “summer learning loss.”

While the academic benefits of summer session are profound, it is the social/emotional support, peer connection, and structure of summer session that helps students thrive during what can
otherwise be a very challenging stretch of down time. Our added parent support component means that now Oli parents, too, will have this critical social/emotional support, peer connection,
and helpful structure.

This seven-week summer session will run from June 27 through August 12 at the cost of $13,400 which will include:

  • Academic needs assessment to customize course selection Four (4) classes at .25 credit hours each for 14 academic instructional hours (Zoom) per week
  • Courses available in math, science, Spanish, English, humanities, and art
  • Personalized teacher support during office hours four (4) days per week
  • Two (2) weekly advisor check ins
  • Three (3) hours of counseling/wellness support per week: One (1) hour of individual counseling
  • One (1) hour of wellness seminar
  • One (1) hour of group psychoeducation
  • Two (2) hours of parent support (webinars and small groups)

We are very excited to offer such a robust distance summer program and hope you will join us.   Please connect with Barclay Mackinnon at (802) 384-7126 or [email protected] for more details or to sign up.

Warmly and hopefully,

Will
