Electives Week Caving Trip!
May 10, 2021
Last week during Electives Week, four adventurous students took part in an off-campus caving expedition in West Virginia accompanied by adventure teachers, Will Tracy and Lauren Diorio!

During Electives Weeks, we offer short, intensive courses in place of our regular curriculum. Some courses meet for half the day and carry 0.25 credits for the week. Other courses meet for the full day and carry 0.50 credits for the week. Full day courses may involve off-campus day trips or overnights.

Electives Weeks give us the opportunity to develop new and exciting courses that can pique student interest, foster engagement, and expand student notions of what school is. Long blocks provide the perfect forum for truly experiential, hands-on classes.

The course might be classroom-bound, it might be outdoors, or it might be a combination of both. It might include a good deal of reading, writing, art work, adventure, music writing, music-making, discussion, theatre, mechanics, computer work, cooking, farm work, building…

The course will be serious, in that the subject matter will be serious, the instructor’s approach will be serious, and the student’s approach will be serious. But courses are fun and exciting as we work to inspire and motivate our students. The course might introduce students to new ideas, new directions, new dimensions in knowledge, the arts, the physical world, the written word.
