Mosaic Making in “Eat, Drink, and Be Roman”
August 30, 2021

Summer students have been busy making mosaics in “Eat, Drink, and Be Roman”.  The assignment was to make a food related mosaic, with creations featuring an olive, a pizza, and an amphora (a container used for holding olive oil or wine in the Roman era).  Students created their mosaics using plaster and glass pieces, just like they would have been made in the Roman era.  Mosaics were used to decorate floors in the dining rooms of Roman villas and were an important part of the dining experience.
