San Diego natives Jennifer and her husband Robert live in the neighborhood they grew up in and are proud parents of Oliverian graduate, Charles B. Handler, Class of 2020! Charles will be at University of Southern California in 2021, and is currently in France attending the American University of Paris. Jennifer and Robert are equally proud of their daughter Alexis, a USC Junior, and their son Andrew, a high schooler.
Charles’ unparalleled and transformative experience at Oliverian, prepared him for living his life independently and sparked a special bond between the Handlers and Oli Family! Jennifer looks forward to a continued relationship with Oliverian by serving on the board. Jennifer keeps busy with her kids’ affiliations and community volunteerism. She founded and was president of her temple’s women’s group, a choir, and an annual 5K charity walk benefiting cancer research. Prior to having children, Jennifer lived in Santa Monica and Los Angeles where she taught Kindergarten bilingually in English and Spanish. Jennifer received a B.A. in Anthropology from University of California, Los Angeles, travelled internationally on the Semester at Sea program, earned an A.A. at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise and worked in the hotel and garment industry. Jennifer participated in and volunteered in the programs of Landmark Worldwide, an international personal and professional growth, training and development company.
Jennifer loves Zumba dance, clothing design, and has even attempted to create her own fashion line. Some fun facts about Jennifer include her unexpected casting with baby Charles in a Hershey Chocolate bar T.V. commercial. Jennifer made another candid T.V. appearance in a Yoplait yogurt taste test. Jennifer (and Charles’) 15 seconds of fame, royalties, and invitation to join the Screen Actor’s Guild were a real thrill, yet Jennifer didn’t consider giving up her ‘day-job’ to pursue acting. Jennifer much prefers her not-so-glamourous yet fulfilling starring role as mom, as well as being at home with her family!
What do I love most about Oliverian?
“The people! They are genuinely interested in the well-being of the students they serve. Everyone at Oliverian is committed to all students being appreciated for who they are, encouraging them to recognize their self-worth and uniqueness. Oliverian creates a safe and unconditionally loving space for students to embrace who they are, feel connected to one another and discover their purpose and place in the world.”
